I’m a weather enthusiast who likes to write.

Background

I inherited the weather gene from my dad, a retired weather forecaster with many accolades. Somewhere along the way picked up an entrepreneurial streak to go with it. I'm an avid bodyboarder and accomplished waterwoman, life-long naturalist, dog and cat mom to Sloan and the boat cats, and I enjoy backpacking and just about anything outdoors. That's why I decided to bring it all together and live aboard my boat — combining my skills, my love of teaching, and my passion for self-sufficient life on the water.

Two of my biggest goals are to live sustainably and to share real, practical knowledge about weather, safety, and life at anchor and while underway. A bit more background: I was a winner in the second Red Bull Project Swell surf forecasting contest, and I completed the Marine Tech program and Captain's Course at Cape Fear Community College.

“We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”
Henry David Thoreau
